Porsche Cars North America announced that it has partnered with Polyphony, the studio behind the Gran Turismo series of video games, to launch a new motorsport competition this summer. It will crown its inaugural winner in September at the Porsche Sports Car Together Fest in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The brand launched a sim racing tournament on July 23, which runs through August 12 at several virtual racetracks in Gran Turismo 7. The top 12 finishers of the tournament, which anyone could enter through the game’s Sport Mode, will be invited to the final event.

The online competitors will compete in the following cars at the listed venues:
• Saturday, July 23, Round 1: Porsche Vision GT / Trial Mountain
• Saturday, July 30, Round 2: Porsche 911 Carrera RS (type 993) / Laguna Seca
• Saturday, August 6, Round 3: Porsche Taycan / Watkins Glen
• Saturday, August 13, Round 4: Porsche 962 C / Daytona Road

The second way to enter the competition is through one of several in-person, offline qualifiers that are being hosted at Porsche dealerships and Porsche Experience Centers throughout the U.S. Guests have to try to put in their fastest lap in Gran Turismo at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in the Porsche Vision GT. The players with the four fastest times will be invited to the grand finale.

Offline qualifiers will take place at the following dates and locations:
• Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles (PECLA) – July 17
• Porsche Steven’s Creek (Santa Clara, CA) – July 22 – 23
• Porsche Exchange (Highlands Park, Illinois) – July 29 – 30
• Porsche Austin – August 5 – 6
• Porsche Paul Miller (Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey) – August 12 – 13
Porsche Experience Center Atlanta (PECATL) – August 19 – 20

The 16 finalists will be invited to attend a finale event at Porsche Sports Car Together Fest, which is taking place on Labor Day weekend, from September 2-4. Two qualifying heats will narrow the pack down to the final eight drivers, who will race for a top prize of $15,000 in cash. The runner up will get $10,000, and there’s a $5,000 prize for the third-place finisher. The rest of the finalists, from 4th to 16th place, will be given real-world driving experiences at a North American Porsche Experience Center as consolation prizes.

The Porsche Sports Car Together Fest, meanwhile, is open to the public and will feature the world’s largest gathering of Porsche GT cars, with a spotlight on the 50th anniversary of the RS model. With racing action on track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and other events besides, it should be a great to spend your Labor Day weekend.
