New $7,500 EV Tax Credit Passes Senate, Requires Carmakers To End Reliance On Chinese Batteries

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 has passed the Senate, which includes a new $7,500 EV tax credit that could benefit automakers that were no longer eligible for the previous scheme. Whereas the previous tax credit was capped at 200,000 vehicles per manufacturer, the new law uncaps it. However, it will require automakers to potentially change how they approach production. To be eligible from 2024, car makers will have to ensure that at least 40 percent of the battery materials are sourced from North America. That percentage rises each year until 2029, when 100 percent American batteries will be stipulated. Not everyone is happy, though, with the EU feeling that the act discriminates against foreign products and is incompatible with the World Trade Organization.

2023 GMC Canyon Combines Luxury And Off-Road Prowess With 310 HP Turbo Engine

The midsized truck segment is getting a renaissance of sorts, as hot on the heels of the impressive 2023 Chevrolet Colorado, is this, the 2023 GMC Canyon. The new Canyon may “only” feature a single four-cylinder engine in its lineup, but the turbocharged 2.7-liter lump is good for 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 430 lb-ft (582 Nm) of torque. The Canyon can also be had in the AT4X trim, which offers offroad enthusiasts an extra 10.7 inches (272 mm) of ground clearance, 33-inch tires, and front and rear e-lockers. Meanwhile, those who like a touch of luxury inside their trucks can opt for the Denali, with a wood and leather interior, heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a seven-speaker Bose audio system.
