After decades of teasing us with tantalizing concepts, Cadillac’s return to the ultra-luxury segment is officially underway as the company has begun testing the highly-anticipated Celestiq.

Previewed by a thinly-veiled concept last month, the upcoming production model aims to return Cadillac to their glory days when “standard of the world” actually meant something.

While there isn’t much to see at this point, the car appears pretty faithful to the concept but it adopts traditional side mirrors and a lightly revised central intake. Motor1 also has pictures showing a revamped rear end with a more traditional bumper, which now incorporates reflectors.

Cadillac hasn’t revealed many details about the Celestiq, but it will ride on the Ultium platform that underpins the Lyriq as well as the GMC Hummer EV. The model also promises to be the “most advanced” Cadillac ever thanks to high-tech features such as Ultra Cruise and a massive 55-inch display that spans the entire width of the dashboard. The huge screen includes a front passenger display with “electronic digital blinds” that are billed as an active privacy feature, which allows the passenger to watch videos without the driver being able to see them.

Besides the massive screen, the model will have a Smart Glass Roof that features Suspended Particle Device technology. This divides the glass roof into four zones and each passenger can adjust the transparency/opacity of the section above them.

Cadillac will release additional details about the Celestiq later this year, but the company has already confirmed it will be hand-built at the Warren Tech Center in Michigan.
