Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (now Stellantis) decision to introduce the 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 all those years ago has proven to be a masterstroke, revitalizing some of its most iconic models and helping to keep the ancient Challenger and Charger relevant.

The Hellcat V8 delivers 707 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) in standard guise but more powerful versions have been offered in various FCA products over the years. Among the most outlandish models in its line-up of vehicles is the Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody and James May recently had the chance to check one out in person.

The Charger in question is a long-termer currently being tested by Drivetribe. May likes some parts of it but other areas don’t particularly impress him.

As you may expect, the veteran automotive journalist is quite fond of the Hellcat engine, noting that he particularly likes the orange paint found on some parts of the V8. He isn’t so impressed with the interior.

The Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody being tested by Drivetribe has an interior bathed in orange leather. It’s far from subtle and certainly not the kind of cabin that appeals to May. In fact, he says he has a general disdain for car interiors and especially hates car interiors that have leather. He actually reveals that one of the reasons he purchased a Ferrari 458 Speciale as opposed to the standard 458 Italia was because it ditched the standard model’s leather interior in favor of Alcantara. Of the Charger’s interior, he says it’s not polished, not discreet, nor is it polite.
