Fans of League of Legends were treated to a special surprise when they watched the official music video for the Worlds 2022 anthem written and performed by Lil Nas X. The video featured Mercedes first-ever virtual show car.

The vehicle appears only briefly in the animated video, but now Mercedes has shared another pair of photos of it. Featuring a bubble cockpit surrounded by as little bodywork as possible, and a quartet of glassy wheels, the car looks properly futuristic. Despite not needing to abide by the laws of physics, it was still challenging to design, according to Gorden Wagener, Mercedes’ chief design officer.

“When designing an extraordinary and virtual show car, two worlds merge – real automotive design and animated design,” said Wagener. “Because of the virtual space, there are no limits to what we can do, which means we can push boundaries and give our creativity the space for the unexpected. The result is something unique: the first all-virtual show car from Mercedes-Benz.”

In addition to the new show car, Mercedes will offer another surprise to fans of League of Legends. Around the time of the game’s Worlds Finals (which start on November 3), people in San Francisco (where the finals are being held) will be able to see design elements from the game incorporated into the digital vehicle display of the Mercedes EQS.

Finally, the Summoner’s Cup, the trophy presented to the League of Legends Worlds champion, has been transported across the United States to the various location of tournaments from New York to Atlanta, and, eventually, to San Francisco, in an EQS SUV.

These latest partnerships come in the wake of Riot Games, the studio behind League of Legends, extending its partnership with Mercedes. Until 2025, the German luxury automaker will sponsor League of Legends Esports events.
