Police officers from Oregon recently had to use at least seven spike strips on a speeding vehicle before they could finally stop and arrest the driver.

Deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office first spotted a woman driving at 112 mph (180 km/h) on Friday on I-5 South near the town of Merlin, shortly before midnight. Despite attempts to force the driver to pull over, she refused and quickly crossed county lines, prompting the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department to continue the pursuit.

The car was spiked multiple times during the chase but the determined driver kept on chugging along with no tires. However, before long, officers performed a PIT maneuver on the car and were able to stop it.

The driver was identified as 75-year-old Elizabeth Katherine Essex. She was taken into custody and lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of elude and reckless driving. Fortunately, no one was injured in the chase.

Police officers from the Oregon State Police, Rogue River, Central Point, Medford Phoenix, Talent, and Ashland all assisted in the effort to stop the driver.

“Multiple agencies assisted including JOCO, Oregon State Police, and police officers from Rogue River, Central Point, Medford, Phoenix, Talent, and Ashland. Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon ECSO 911 did a great job coordinating the many law enforcement agencies leading to a successful and safe resolution of the pursuit,” the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
