2024 Audi A4 Avant Spied With Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain And What Appears To Be A Massive Panoramic Glass Roof

Work continues on the 2024 Audi A4 Avant as spy photographers have snapped a pair of prototypes undergoing cold weather testing.

Dressed in swirly camouflage, the wagons feature a shorter and wider grille that resides above a more pronounced central intake. They’re joined by evolutionary headlights and vertical air curtains.

The updates continue further back as we can see an edgier shoulder line and new flush-mounted door handles. Designers also appear to have given the wagon more dramatic third quarter glass and a gently sloping roof.

Speaking of the latter, the prototypes might be equipped with a massive panoramic glass roof. That remains to be seen, but the rear antenna effectively resides on an ‘island.’ While a glass roof seems like the most likely candidate, spy photographers floated the possibility of a solar roof.

Putting that aside, the prototypes sport a dual exhaust system as well as temporary taillights. The shape of the latter suggest the production units might be slimmer than those found on the current model.

Spy photographers didn’t get interior pictures this time around, but previous images have shown the A4 will have a freestanding digital instrument cluster and a floating infotainment system. We can also expect a new steering wheel, slender air vents, and a revamped center console with a Q4-like shifter.

At least one of the prototypes was a plug-in hybrid, although little is known about it at this point. That being said, it’s possible the model could take some cues from the plug-in hybrid A6 and Q5 which feature a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 17.9 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor. This gives them combined outputs of 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) and 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS).
