Spy photographers recently snapped the first pictures of the 2024 BMW 5-Series Touring and now we’re getting a better look at the wagon as it has finally taken to the streets of Germany.

Dressed in heavy camouflage, the wagon follows in the footsteps of the redesigned sedan and adopts an evolutionary but streamlined appearance.  The disguise hides a number of details, but we can see a wide grille that appears slightly larger and more pronounced.  It’s flanked by new headlights, which reside above vertical air curtains.

A long hood gives way to a rakish windscreen that flows into a gently sloping roof.  It’s joined by an evolutionary greenhouse, which adopts a more dynamic beltline that rises toward the rear end.  Further below, there’s an edgier shoulder line, streamlined bodywork, and new flush-mounted door handles.  We can also see two-tone wheels that are backed up by a braking system with red calipers.

The rear end doesn’t look too different at first glance, but the wagon has been equipped with a new rear window that curves up at the outside edges.  The tailgate also appears more rounded and we can get a glimpse of the production taillights, which appear slimmer than those found on the current model.

Spy photographers haven’t gotten a look inside yet, but the cabin should largely echo the sedan.  This means we can expect a new steering wheel, updated switchgear, and a minimalist shifter. They’ll be joined by a Curved Display, which will likely consist of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment system.

The 5-Series Touring is expected to be offered with an assortment of engines including a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque.  That being said, this particular prototype is believed to be an electric i5 Touring and it could use a powertrain similar to the iX.  While that remains to be seen, the crossover features a 111.5 kWh battery pack that powers a dual motor all-wheel drive system with combined outputs of up to 532 hp (397 kW / 540 PS).
