An intriguing teaser video has just been released of South America’s forthcoming 2024 Ram pickup truck, currently known as the 1200.
The new truck is codenamed Project 291 and has been in the works for quite some time. A CarScoops reader first spotted the new Ram testing in Hungary earlier this year but that prototype was adorned with fake bodywork to hide its design. The prototypes featured in this clip are wearing significantly less camouflage, allowing us to get a good look at the vehicle’s exterior design.
Visible at the front end of the Ram 1200 is a large grille with horizontal slats and space for a large Ram badge. It’s a little more difficult to ascertain what shape the headlights take but they certainly appear slimmer than those of the Ram 1500.

Elsewhere, we can see that the pickup will have squared-off wheel arches, prominent character lines running down the sides, and a set of simple upright taillights.
The teaser video also shows the new Ram pickup sliding around a dirt test track while also climbing a set of stairs without breaking a sweat.
Ram notes that the new vehicle is the first that it has developed and will produce in South America. It has also been confirmed the truck will sport the brand’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder Hurricane 4 engine, similar to the powertrain offered in the Jeep Wrangler and other Stellantis models. In the U.S. this engine is good for 270 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. While the carmaker has not yet confirmed what transmission this engine will be mated to, it is expected to be a nine-speed automatic driving all four wheels.
The carmaker is tipped to sell the new pickup in a number of different guises, including in Big Horn, Laramie, R/T, and Rebel forms. A date for the truck’s unveiling has not yet been announced but we expect to see it in the flesh before the end of this year.
