Pirelli has just unveiled its latest and greatest high-performance street tire dubbed the P Zero Trofeo RS. It serves as a technical evolution of the Trofeo R but whereas that tire was originally developed as an aftermarket tire, the Trofeo RS is primarily intended as an original equipment tire for car manufacturers.

The new semi-slick P Zero Trofeo RS includes the company’s Multi-compound Tread which means they can be personalized to complement the individual characteristics of a particular car by matching them to different tread pattern compounds in Pirelli’s Prestige catalog.

Pirelli says that the new tire offers improved performance in dry conditions and can maintain performance over a longer period of time. The company notes that it also focused on improving the safety of the tire in wet conditions, something that’s particularly important given that it will be sold as original equipment on supercar and hypercar models.

Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS Premieres On New Pagani Utopia At Goodwood

The first car brand to request a specific version of the new tire was Pagani for the Utopia. The new P Zero Trofeo RS tires offer much greater performance than the P Zero Corsa tires that Pagani has used in the past and for the rear tires, a different compound was selected to improve speed and safety on the track as well as ease and predictability on the road.

Pirelli used virtual modeling extensively throughout the development of the new tires before it commenced testing of physical prototypes on the track. Evo Magazine states that the Ford Mustang Dark Horse will also be offered with the new tires and while they will initially be reserved for car manufacturers, the Trofeo RS is expected to launch as an aftermarket option in the future.

The tires will celebrate their world premiere at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed when both the Pagani Utopia and Huayra R hit the famed hillclimb.
