Ford was the first automaker to announce plans to embrace the North American Charging Standard and reveal their EVs would gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. Since the move was announced last May, nearly every automaker has followed suit.

That’s a drastic change in less than a year and Ford CEO Jim Farley has now provided an update. In a post on Elon Musk’s social network, the executive said certain Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning owners, in the United States and Canada, will soon be able to reserve a complimentary charging adapter. This will enable the vehicles to be charged at Superchargers as well as other stations using a Tesla connecter.

Farley said the complimentary adapters are “our way of saying thank you” and will help to make the charging experience “more convenient.” Ford owners will gain access to Superchargers this spring and the company will embrace the NACS charging port in 2025, which will eliminate the need for adapters altogether.

Reservations for the adaptor are slated to open this spring and will be limited to “eligible owners.” There’s no word on who exactly is eligible at this point [see update], but the effort will likely benefit both current owners as well as future buyers.

We can expect to learn more in the coming weeks, but it’s just the latest development for Ford EV owners. A few weeks ago, Google revealed EVs will soon be able to share real-time battery information with Google Maps. This will provide an assortment of benefits as the navigation system will soon be able to “provide your estimated battery level upon arrival at your destination, suggest charging stops along the way, and even estimate how long charging will take based on your vehicle.”

The feature will debut in the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning in the coming months, before spreading to additional vehicles.
