• The car is largely identical to the standard A110 but costs €650,000 ($702,000).
  • Zagato is building just 19 examples of the AGTZ Twin Tail with a Polish supercar dealer.
  • Each car will take approximately 1,000 hours to build and assemble.

The Alpine A110-based AGTZ Twin Tail has been unveiled in full by Zagato prior to its public debut at FuoriConcorso in Lake Como, Italy.

Just 19 examples of this very special A110 are being built through a collaboration between Zagato and Polish supercar dealer La Squadra. The car is inspired by the Alpine A220 racer from the 1960s and like that car, comes in short and long tail versions. What’s interesting about the new AGTZ Twin Tail is that the long tail section can be removed. According to Top Gear, it takes just five minutes to remove or fit the long tail.

The car isn’t cheap, priced for an extraordinary €650,000 (~$702,000) excluding taxes. For their money, customers will receive largely the same mechanicals as the entry-level Alpine A110, meaning the car rocks a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Buyers will be able to request to have the engine tuned to deliver 300 hp, probably for an extra fee.

It’s not just the rear end of the AGTZ that has been transformed. Zagato has overhauled the rest of the body with lightweight carbon fiber components. This includes the front fascia where there are new air intakes, a bespoke hood, and enlarged headlights. It will take 1,000 hours to build and assemble each model, which goes some way to explain the high price point.

“Our project is dedicated to people that are looking for something more in automotive,” La Squadra founder Jakub Pietrzak described. “People that are looking for something that you can’t see every day on the street. People that are looking at cars through an artistic prism.”

The car will be on static display in Lake Como this weekend before making its dynamic debut in July.
