• Ford has introduced the new Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon.
  • It features a motorsport-inspired exposed carbon fiber body.
  • The model weighs roughly 13 lbs less than the Carbon Series.

The Ford Mustang GTD lineup is expanding as the automaker has introduced a new Liquid Carbon trim. As the name suggests, it skips the paint and flaunts its carbon fiber body for all to see.

The model builds on the Carbon Series and has a carbon weave that cuts down the center of the vehicle. The weave on the fenders and side panels also match up with adjoining components, resulting in a cohesive look throughout.

Putting the carbon aside, the model features unique Brembo brake calipers that have an anodized body as well as a gloss black GTD script.

The upgrades extend to the cabin, which mixes black leather with Dinamica microfiber upholstery. They’re joined by Hyper Lime contrast stitching and seat centers that have a “reflective center gradient” pattern. Drivers will also find carbon fiber trim, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 13.2-inch infotainment system.

Besides looking awesome, the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is about 13 lbs (5. 9 kg) lighter than the Carbon Series with the Performance package. This is due to the lack of paint as well as the elimination of sheet metal in the doors.

Ford didn’t mention pricing, but the automaker confirmed the Performance package comes standard. They added the first deliveries are scheduled for October.

When it arrives, the car will have a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 815 hp (608 kW / 826 PS) and 664 lb-ft (899 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which should enable the model to hit a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).

Mustang GTD chief program engineer Greg Goodall said the “Liquid Carbon is the ultimate expression of the Mustang GTD’s high-tech, high-performance construction and is a reminder of the race-derived, cutting-edge capability that sits beneath the surface of every Mustang GTD.” He added the exposed carbon fiber makes a great looking car stand out even more.
