  • Japan gets exclusive F Sport Mode Black V with forged wheels.
  • TRD aero parts include wing mirrors, skirts, and exhaust updates.

The Lexus IS may not be new, but it’s not done yet. First introduced in 2013, the current generation of Lexus’s compact sport sedan has somehow dodged obsolescence through a string of timely updates. The latest refresh arrives in Japan, following a global facelift, and brings with it an exclusive variant called the F Sport Mode Black V.

This latest version for the Japanese market inherits the same set of upgrades recently rolled out in other regions, including the U.S. Among the more notable changes is a revised electric power steering system aimed at delivering better feedback.

Lexus also gave the IS a light visual retouch, sharpening the front fascia and, for F Sport models, adding a new rear spoiler that enhances the car’s stance.

While the overall design of the IS has aged quite gracefully over the years, the same cannot be said about the interior. It’s good news then that for 2026, Lexus spent most of its time enhancing the sedan’s cabin, fitted a new 12.3-inch infotainment display, joined by a matching 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

The dashboard and transmission tunnel have also been completely reworked, resulting in a layout that finally feels closer to current standards.

A Japan-Only Special

Japan also gets a special treat in the form of the F Sport Mode Black V, a name that may not roll off the tongue but certainly gets attention. Unique to this market, it comes fitted with forged BBS aluminum wheels, red brake calipers, and a generous helping of ultra suede upholstery across the seats, center console, and door panels.

Prices for the updated IS300h in Japan start at 5.8 million yen (around $40,000 USD) and top out at 6.75 million yen (roughly $46,500 USD) for the F Sport Mode Black V.

TRD Adds Its Touch

Lexus didn’t stop at the factory trim. Alongside the updated IS lineup, a full catalogue of TRD parts has been announced. These include front bumper extensions, new side mirrors that seem to nod at a certain Bavarian rival, and extended side skirts aimed at improving airflow. At the rear, there’s a new diffuser and exhaust outlets that add a bit more edge.

Some of the performance enhancements go beyond cosmetics. TRD now offers a central performance damper mounted at the rear of the chassis, which is designed to sharpen steering response while also reducing noise and vibration. For drivers wanting even more rigidity, new underbody bracing is also available.
