• Shelby unveiled the 810-hp GT350 Convertible for the 2026 model year.
  • A 5.0-liter V8 or a supercharged 3.0 Whipple engine are available.
  • Buyers can choose between manual or automatic transmission options

Mustangs are back in the spotlight this week, and not without reason. Just as Ford unveiled the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC, complete with running gear from the GTD, Shelby American has revealed its own headline-grabbing pony car.

A year after launching its latest Shelby GT350, the company has now taken the roof off. Say hello to the new GT350 Convertible, a modern muscle car that pairs Shelby performance with the open-air thrill of a drop-top with the option of a manual gearbox. That’s a combination you won’t find on the range-topping GTD or the new Dark Horse SC.

Those uninterested in chasing crazy lap times or lighting up quarter-mile boards can stick with the standard setup. The GT350 Convertible is available with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V8 producing 480 horsepower.

Still, chances are most buyers will be eyeing the other version. Thanks to a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, output jumps to 810 horsepower, just 15 short of the GTD’s figure.

Unlike the GTD, this one gives you options. Buyers can choose between a manual or automatic transmission, a welcome bit of flexibility for anyone who still values three pedals. Pricing starts at $177,884, which makes it roughly $6,000 more than the GT350 fastback and still considerably less than a GTD that starts from around $325,000, plus that one only comes as a coupe.

Shelby American has also updated the chassis and exhaust to match the car’s new form. It gets a Borla catback system, lowering springs, updated sway bars, caster camber plates, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels. For manual buyers, a short-throw shifter is also part of the package.

The design isn’t as wild as something like the Shelby Super Snake, but the GT350 Convertible carries its own set of cues. A reshaped hood, revised upper and lower grilles, a three-piece front splitter, Shelby badging, a standard ducktail spoiler, and tinted windows are all part of the design. For those wanting more visual punch, a fixed carbon fiber wing is on the options list.

When Shelby American announced the new GT350 last year, it said it would only be produced for 2025, capped at just 526 units. However, strong demand has prompted them to extend production into 2026 and expects to build “fewer than 1,000” examples this year.

Sales will run through select Ford dealerships in the US, with a smaller number of cars set to be distributed overseas, including to Europe and the Asia Pacific region.
