• A teen got his new Audi S5 impounded after just four days.
  • He was caught going speeding and weaving through traffic.
  • Nebraska law could suspend his license for up to a year.

Teenagers and performance vehicles should never mix, but one 19-year old in Nebraska found that out the hard way. Besides being taken to jail, his new car was impounded after just four days of ownership.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed an Audi S5 traveling in Omaha at speeds of 133 mph (214 km/h). If that wasn’t bad enough, the vehicle was then seen “threading the needle between six other cars trying to get to the fast lane without signaling.”

A traffic stop was initiated and it was eventually discovered Tanner Jones had bought the car on December 30. Since the incident occurred on January 3, he only had the vehicle for four days.

Unfortunately for Jones, deputies didn’t cut him some slack as he was arrested for willful reckless driving, failure to signal, no proof of insurance, and going 36+ mph (58+ km/h) over the limit. The Nebraska Legislature says a first willful reckless driving offense is a Class III misdemeanor and results in having your driver’s license revoked for between one month and a year.

The speeding ticket will apparently cost $400, while the other two violations appear pretty minor. That being said, the car was also impounded and that can be pretty expensive to recover.

While the Sheriff’s Office didn’t issue an extended statement about the incident, they described it as a “dangerous production” that was so fast, even the “Lidar had to do a double take at the ludicrous speed.” They added it was a case of a new car and bad decisions.
