• A rare Bentley Continental SC is going up for auction.
  • The 400 hp coupe has removable glass roof panels.
  • Model is expected to fetch $250,000 – $300,000.

The Continental GT put Bentley back on the map when it debuted in 2002. The model was a smashing success but, years earlier, the company introduced the limited edition Continental SC.

Known as the Sedanca Coupe, the striking sports car was based on the Continental R and launched in 1999. It still looks great nearly 30 years later and a low-mileage example is going up for auction.

Sporting a classic black exterior, the Continental SC sports an upright matrix grille and matching mesh inserts. They’re joined by red Bentley badges as well as a sporty body that appears flawless. We can also see subtle chrome accents as well as five-spoke 18-inch wheels.

However, what really sets the car apart is its two-piece removable roof. Each section has a glass pane and is joined by a fixed glass roof above the rear seats. This ensures an open and airy cabin, regardless if the panels are installed or removed.

When the mood strikes you, the panels can easily be removed and stored in a special trunk compartment. The auction listing also notes the car incorporates some structural components from the Azure convertible to keep things stiff when the top is removed.

The interior also looks great as we can see perfectly preserved heated leather seats with optional black piping. They’re joined by burled walnut trim, metal accents, and an Alpine audio system with a CD changer.

Power comes from a turbocharged 6.75-liter V8 engine producing 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a four-speed automatic transmission, which enables the coupe convertible hybrid to accelerate from 0-60 mph in “just over six seconds.” If drivers keep their foot planted, the model will eventually top out at 155 mph (250 km/h).

This particular car is being offered without reserve at RM Sotheby’s Miami auction later this month. It’s expected to fetch between $250,000 and $300,000, which is about as much as a new Continental GT.

That’s not cheap, but this Canadian market car is one of 73 produced (however, there were reportedly another six Mulliner variants). Furthermore, it has only been driven 4,330 km (2,691 miles) in the past 27 years.
