- The AMG GT Black Series will return for a new generation.

Mercedes-AMG knows a thing or two about building extraordinary front-engined performance cars, and its latest track-focused weapon promises to be the most remarkable yet. The company has shared teasers of the Concept AMG GT Track Sport, confirming that the camouflaged beast spotted at the Nurburgring is the foundation for the next-generation GT3 race car and the next GT Black Series.
According to Mercedes, the dual-track development will culminate in the “most radical Black Series ever”. In fact, the roadgoing version will serve as the homologation model for the next GT3 racer, effectively becoming a direct rival to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Ford Mustang GTD.

The prototypes were first spotted last year, with yellow-green and orange-red accents on their camouflage wraps. Based on the new teasers they look nearly identical, with small differences on the grille. The overall shape, headlights, and greenhouse are similar to the road-going AMG GT, but the Track Sport concepts are noticeably longer and wider, with completely redesigned tails and aero add-ons.
A Track Beast
The active aero flaps above the front wheels are reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar. Other parts attached to the bodywork for maximum downforce and cooling include a large front splitter, canards, a vented hood, and a gargantuan swan-neck-style rear wing stretching from where the rear window would usually sit.

However, just like the huge wing found on Manthey’s kit for the 911 GT3 RS, there is no window, only a solid panel to support the wing’s uprights. This bonkers prototype also has an absolutely crazy rear diffuser and side-exiting tailpipes.
Unlike the GT 63 S E Performance grand tourer which has a plug-in hybrid setup, this project focuses on “uncompromising” lightweight performance and racing DNA. Under the hood we expect to find a new version of AMG’s flat-plane crank V8, combined with a unique chassis setup and various weight-saving measures.

According to the company, following development at the in-house Immendingen track as well as the Bilster Berg, Portimão and Monteblanco tracks, they have now started the testing phase on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said:

And that is exactly what the future Black Series and the new GT3 will do.”
