- Acura has introduced the MDX Type S Overland concept.
- Features a rooftop tent, a spare tire carrier, and all-terrain tires.
- One-off model was built by SEMA Garage to inspire enthusiasts.
Acura and SEMA have joined forces to create the MDX Type S Overland concept. It’s a one-off model designed to show how vehicles can be “thoughtfully reimagined through purposeful aftermarket upgrades to support off-road and overland adventure – without sacrificing daily comfort and refinement.”
Set to debut at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, the crossover was made by SEMA Garage and features a rugged exterior with bronze 18-inch Black Rhino wheels wrapped in Falken WildPeak all-terrain tires. They’re joined by a Baja Design light bar and a rear tire carrier that also holds a jerry can.

The upgrades don’t end there as the model has been equipped with a Prinsu roof rack and an Overland Stargazer Duo tent. The latter accommodates two people and is constructed using carbon fiber and aluminum to keep weight down.
Since the concept is based on the MDX Type S, it features a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine developing 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS) and 354 lb-ft (479 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission and a Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.
That’s not exactly a Moab-worthy setup, but the concept looks the part and likely has a touch more capability thanks to the meaty tires. It’s also worth noting the model wasn’t designed to be a hardcore off-roader as it was built to “inspire enthusiasts and demonstrate fitment, function, and integration across a modern OEM platform.”
