- Nissan recalls more than 51,000 Kicks models over instrument cluster software glitch.
- The car’s display can go partially blue or completely blank during cold startups.
- he fix is a free software update that takes about 30 minutes once the process starts.
When we first drove the latest Nissan Kicks, the general takeaway was positive. The funky little crossover offers a lot of equipment for the cash, and in today’s market of dwindling deals, it stands out. That said, over 51,000 customers who have taken the plunge could now end up a little less satisfied with their purchase. According to the NHTSA, certain Kicks have a digital gauge cluster that could randomly take the day off.
According to recall documents filed by Nissan, the issue affects 51,598 examples across both 2025 and 2026 model years. These models have a digital cluster that can go blank on startup. Documents indicate that less than one percent of the recall population has the issue. The automaker says the entire problem is software-based.

Nissan says a communication failure can occur between the graphic controller and automotive controller integrated circuits. When that happens, the screen may display a partially blank image, turn blue, or go completely dark. Owners receive no warning before the fault appears.
Nissan’s investigation began after receiving a field report in February 2025 about a Kicks with a blank instrument display. Over the following months, the automaker and supplier Continental collected additional units from the field and eventually traced the problem to a weakness within an integrated circuit.
Testing showed the fault could trigger an internal error flag that sends the software into a continuous loop, resulting in a loss of communication and a blank display. A production fix was implemented on January 16, 2026.
Nissan says it has identified seven technical reports and 205 warranty claims related to the issue, but it is not aware of any crashes or injuries connected to the defect. Dealers will update the combination meter software free of charge, a repair expected to take about 30 minutes. Owner notification letters are scheduled to begin mailing on July 1, 2026.
