- Porsche has added simulated gears to to the electric Taycan for 2027.
- A bigger 105 kWh battery and faster charging arrive alongside it.
- Infotainment software gets sharper graphics and more minimalist icons.
Last year, Porsche sold just 16,339 examples of the all-electric Taycan, the lowest figure since the model launched and down more than half from its 2021 high, when 41,296 units of the EV were delivered. Porsche isn’t ready to let the Taycan slip quietly away, though, and the 2027 update is built to keep it swinging at the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4 Door.
The headline change to the updated Taycan is E-Shift, and it’s the one buyers will notice first from behind the wheel. The name spells out the gist: virtual gear changes in a car that has no gears to change. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N pioneered the idea, and it has since spread to the new Mercedes and even the Ferrari Luce.
The system offers manual and automatic modes, allowing drivers to shift through eight simulated gears using the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Porsche says there’s an “authentic” feel when shifting between gears and tweaked torque curves to add to the feeling. A virtual rev limiter has also been added, and the German marque has tweaked the Electric Sport Sound system to work in conjunction with the shifting.
Every Taycan in the range can be had with E-Shift, though only the Turbo GT gets it as standard equipment. On every other model in the lineup, it lands on the options list.
A New Battery And Infotainment System
As standard, the 2027 Taycan, Taycan 4, and Taycan 4S models come with Porsche’s larger 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus, which supports 320 kW DC fast charging and adds a new battery state-of-health display. Models sold in the US, excluding the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach pack, also get NACS charging on the passenger-side fender, while the driver-side fender keeps its J1772 AC port. A CCS adapter is included.

Updates have also been made to the Taycan’s digital displays. Now featured is Porsche Communication Management, offering up to five times higher computing power than before, delivering quicker responses. Additionally, the look of the infotainment software system has been updated to provide clearer graphics and more minimalist icons. Easy-to-find widgets can also be added, and owners can use the dedicated App Center to download apps from Porsche and third-party sources.
Porsche has also improved the car’s AI-based voice control, letting occupants hold more natural conversations with it and ask follow-up questions without repeating “Hey Porsche.” The wireless smartphone charger jumps to 25 watts, which Porsche says fills a phone about 1.5 times faster than before, and infotainment updates can now install entirely over the air. Finally, the 2027 Taycan adds 16 new Paint to Sample colors, bringing the total to 153.
US pricing opens at $111,900 for the updated rear-wheel-drive Taycan, before a $2,350 delivery fee. Order books are open now, and deliveries are set to begin in the fall.
