- Polestar has released a new James Bond-themed ad for the 5.
- It stars Alexander Skarsgård as our would-be secret agent.
- The clip isn’t great, but the car offers up to 872 hp and 749 lb-ft.
Polestar recently unveiled the 5 at the Munich Motor Show, and it’s the brand’s coolest car since the 1. However, they’re marketing it in the cringiest way possible.
Instead of developing something fun and creative, they decided to crib from the James Bond playbook. If that wasn’t bad enough, they enlisted Alexander Skarsgård, and he appears to phone it in. The end result is a slog of an ad that somehow makes the car feel less special.

Without further ado, the ad starts in typical Bond meets Q fashion. Skarsgård stares at the car and is greeted by a younger man who asks if he needs assistance. Skarsgård calls the 5 magnificent and asks if it has been assigned to another agent.
“Not Q” is confused, but mentions some details before Skarsgård asks if the car turns invisible, as a not-so-subtle reference to the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish from Die Another Day.
This continues with the interior as Not Q mentions some features, before Skarsgård inquires about a flame thrower. It then showcases the digital rearview mirror as the 5 lacks a rear window.
The resulting clip is basically someone reading off a spec sheet, while bad acting tries to spice things up. Given that the ad falls flat, perhaps it’s not surprising the video was “produced entirely by Polestar’s in-house creative team.”
Regardless, the 5 is a lot more interesting than the video makes it out to be. The Porsche Taycan competitor rides on a bespoke platform and features a 112 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which can be paired to one of two dual-motor AWD systems.
The entry-level variant produces an impressive 738 hp (550 kW / 748 PS) and 599 lb-ft (812 Nm) of torque. This enables the car to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Drivers can also expect a WLTP range of up to 416 miles (670 km).
The Performance variant kicks things up a notch as it has 872 hp (650 kW / 884 PS) and 749 lb-ft (1,015 Nm) of torque. This lowers the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time to 3.2 seconds, but the range falls to 351 miles (565 km).
The car’s initial launch will be focused on 24 markets, but North America isn’t one of them. As a result, pricing and availability for the United States and Canada remain unclear.
