• Audi TT was parked legally before council painted new disabled bay.
  • Owner got multiple parking tickets while away on vacation last month.
  • Authorities claimed wardens weren’t told bay was freshly installed.

Imagine parking your car on the street outside your home, heading off on vacation, and returning to find the city council has painted a disabled bay around it. Not only that, but they also fined you four times for parking illegally.

That’s exactly what happened to one man in the UK last month, who later posted a video on TikTok, now gone viral, calling out what he saw as questionable behavior by the local council.

The man had parked his black Audi TT on the street outside his home before heading off on holiday. Fortunately, he had a security camera pointed directly at the road, which captured everything that followed.

On November 17, council workers showed up outside the man’s home and painted fresh white lines on the street, marking out a disabled parking bay, conveniently wrapped around the already-parked Audi.

Four days later, on November 21, a parking warden came by and issued a ticket, placing it under one of the TT’s windshield wipers. Over the next few days, three more fines followed.

It’s absolutely ridiculous. A local also made a Facebook post about the Audi, noting that the council had added the disabled bay for her, but saying that the TT had been parked in it for the past week.

Fortunately, the TT owner won’t have to pay any of the fines. According to the Croydon Council, all four parking tickets were cancelled a week before the man posted this video to social media.

Speaking with the BBC, the Audi owner said he had received no communication from the council about the tickets being cancelled, noting they only commented when he posted the clip.

According to the council, it is common practice to paint parking bays around cars because waiting for the space to be free could take several weeks. It also claimed that the parking warden had not been informed that the bay had been painted around the TT, hence why she started issuing tickets for it.
