• American Expedition Vehicles has unveiled their first Ford build.
  • It’s based on the F-Series Super Duty and is known as the FXL.
  • It features a 4-inch lift, 40-inch tires, and heavy duty bumpers.

The Detroit Auto Show kicks off on January 14th and American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) is getting a head start by unveiling their new FXL. It’s an off-road focused truck based on the Ford F-250 and F-350.

Kicking things off is the turn-key variant, which features HighMark fender flares and a steel front bumper that has been designed to accommodate a 20,000 lb (9,072 kg) winch. The bumper is also notable for being designed with driver assistance systems in mind as radar components can be directly integrated into the beefy unit.

We can also see a high clearance rear bumper, bodyside graphics, and AEV badging. They’re joined by several accessories including mud flaps and auxiliary lights.

However, the truck is more notable for featuring a 4-inch DualSport suspension with Bilstein shocks and unique coil springs. They enable the model to ride on 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels that are wrapped in 40-inch BFGoodrich HD-Terrain tires. AEV said they wanted to fit the tires with the “least amount of lift possible,” in order to increase off-road capability while “maintaining ride quality, stability, and confident on-road behavior.”

The FXL will be built at AEV’s plant in Wixom, Michigan and sold through authorized dealerships. There’s no word on pricing, but the truck will come with a 3-year or 36,000 mile (57,936 km) warranty.

If you’re a build not bought kind of guy, AEV will offer a number of components individually. Some of these items – including the front bumper – will fit other models including the F-450 and F-550.
