• Biker twisted the throttle at exactly the wrong moment.
  • Dashcam footage from a nearby car captured the crash.
  • She fell off what appears to be a cliff, but walked away

Riding a motorcycle can be difficult, especially for those new to the craft. Whether this adventure bike rider in China was new to the game is unclear, but she crashed without any outside interference while picking her way along a narrow dirt road at less than 10 mph (16 km/h).

Dashcam footage recorded by a car following behind shows two bikers slowly making their way up what appears to be a mountain pass in February. The rider on the right, wearing a bright orange jacket, seems to struggle at low speed, losing balance and leaning to the left.

Instead of easing off the throttle and trying to steady the bike or set it down in a somewhat dignified manner, the rider twists it further, kicking up a spray of dirt. That sudden input sends her across the road and over a dirt mound.

The clip shows the woman briefly going airborne before tumbling down what appears to be a cliff, as her riding companion watches on in disbelief.

There is no word on how far the rider fell, though Chinese media report that she managed to walk away uninjured. The same likely cannot be said for the motorcycle, which was almost certainly badly damaged, as it was never designed for launching off a cliff like this.

In the world of motorcycling, the mistake is commonly known as ‘whiskey throttle’. It happens when a rider instinctively pulls back on the handlebars and, in doing so, rolls the throttle open. As the biker was thrown around on the dirt, it seems she did just that, accelerating when she should have braked immediately to avoid disaster.
