• Driving this beast is a 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 2,031 hp.
  • Hennessey has equipped the one-off LF with a gated six-speed manual.
  • Despite the immense power, the Venom F5 is only rear-wheel drive.

If you’ve ever heard a Hennessey Venom F5 running, you’ll know it sounds like an angry, caged animal. Rather than a high-revving purr, it delivers a thumping bellow more akin to that of a drag car with aftermarket camshafts. The one-off, stick-shift-equipped Venom F5 Revolution LF is even more extreme.

Unveiled by Hennessey during last year’s Monterey Car Week, this special Venom F5 has been brought to life by the firm’s Maverick bespoke division and is the only F5 built with a six-speed manual. While it was presented eight months ago, development couldn’t be finalized before the event, so Hennessey is continuing to perfect it on its dedicated track.

This clip, featuring John Hennessey and the company’s test driver, David Donohue, shows the duo putting the LF through its paces and offers our first opportunity to see the manual in action. Just like the very finest manuals of yesteryear, the car has a gated shifter, providing an awesome metallic click that John compares to pulling the slide back on a pistol.

Looks European, Sounds American

The straight-line performance of this thing looks truly animalistic. While screaming down the track, Donohue easily hits 156 mph (251 km/h) in a matter of moments, all while only at the very bottom of fourth gear.

As the car’s development has continued, Hennessey has added automatic rev-matching to the transmission and upgraded the brakes. When it’s finished, the owner will really have an American-made hypercar unlike any other.

Of course, it’s not just the gearbox that makes the Venom F5 Revolution LF special, but also the engine. It features a revised version of Hennessey’s 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8, delivering 2,031 hp, all of which is sent to the rear wheels. A manual car with over 2,000 horsepower at the rear wheels can only mean the owner is one brave person.
