• Ram’s CEO is expecting people to complain the Rumble Bee is quad cab-only.
  • He doesn’t want to hear it as only 3% of truck sales come from single cab models.
  • Executive told us the Rumble Bee isn’t a safe bet, but believes it will work.

The 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee is the SRT-10 successor we’ve all been waiting for, but it’s a notable departure as it skips the six-speed manual and regular cab configuration. However, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis doesn’t want to hear it.

Speaking at a media event yesterday, the outspoken executive said he was sure “keyboard warriors” would “bitch” about the truck being quad cab-only. This is despite the fact that the SRT-10 was also offered in a quad cab configuration.

While some folks will undoubtedly complain, Kuniskis pointed out that only 3% of truck sales come from regular cab models. That’s a tiny percentage and if people actually wanted single cab pickups, they’d buy them.

Kuniskis also joked that going quad cab-only gives buyers a “spousal alibi.” In effect, you can tell your wife the Rumble Bee is a practical and sensible option as it seats five, features a 5’ 7” bed, and can tow up to 8,890 lbs (4,032 kg).

That’s quite a bit of capability for a pickup that offers three different engines producing between 395 hp (295 kW / 400 PS) and 777 hp (579 kW / 788 PS).

The Rumble Bee Isn’t A Safe Bet

Besides talking about the quad cab configuration, Kuniskis told us the Rumble Bee lineup isn’t a “safe bet” as muscle trucks have never really worked out well in the past. That helps to explain why automakers have abandoned them and focused on more popular off-road variants.

However, Kuniskis believes the timing is right for “muscle trucks” and says Ram has a better strategy this time around. That certainly seems to be the case as the company isn’t just introducing one variant. Instead, there are four Rumble Bees that will hit an assortment of different price points and appeal to a wider customer base.

Furthermore, Kuniskis feels that previous sport trucks failed because they were “half steps.” In effect, companies just threw a huge engine under the hood and tinkered with the suspension.

That’s also true of the Rumble Bee, but the automaker embraced a unique quad cab, short bed configuration. This gives the truck a 13-inch (330 mm) shorter wheelbase as well as improved handling and a stiffer frame.
