• Maserati officials have opened the door to the Quattroporte’s return.
  • Company COO suggested it could be a sedan and crossover hybrid.
  • Italian brand is working on two new E-segment vehicles due by 2030.

Maserati recently confirmed plans for two new E-segment vehicles and one is believed to be a Levante successor. The other is more mysterious, but the teaser image implied it could be a sports car, grand tourer, or four-door coupe.

The latter possibility looks increasingly likely as Maserati COO Santo Ficili talked about sedans during a call discussing the facelifted Grecale and GranTurismo lineup. However, a future model might not follow the same formula as the last Ghibli and Quattroporte.

According to Road & Track, Ficili said the “modern interpretation of a sedan can change” and “I believe that there will be space for a sort of sedan, which is a little bit more capable … but still aggressive.” That sounds a bit like a model that blurs the line between sedan and crossover.

Ficili further alluded to this by stating, “I also believe that the word ‘Quattroporte’ is exactly looking for something new – because at the end of the day, there is this bridge that still hasn’t been done between SUVs and sedans.” However, many companies have tried and failed to create a compelling mix of the two.

Maserati’s Next Quattroporte Could Take After The AMC Eagle Of All Things

The classic poster child is the AMC Eagle, but it’s far from alone. Volvo launched the S60 Cross Country over a decade ago, while Toyota tried something similar with the Crown. We’ve also seen plenty of rugged wagons such as the new Audi A6 Allroad.

Besides that subtle hint, Maserati suggested their reimagined sedan could come relatively soon. As Chief Marketing Officer Cristiano Fiorio stated, “We are not present today in this E-segment where we have the legacy of our story, meaning Quattroporte and the Ghibli sedan. In this direction, we are developing a new model because there is a specific request coming from the customer.”

Both E-segment vehicles are expected to arrive before 2030, but Maserati doesn’t exactly have the best track record for delivery. However, the company is currently hosting partnership talks and we can expect to learn more details in December.
