A wide spectrum of custom car builders operate across the United States, ranging from backyard operations creating wild one-offs to established shops that can create cars that drop jaws like a hypercar. Kindig-It Design sits comfortably in the latter classification, and you now have the chance to buy an incredible custom Corvette from one of the most revered car builders.

This creation is known as the TwelveAir and was unveiled at the 2024 Detroit Autorama after nearly five years of design and construction. Although it may look like a Corvette, it was actually built from the ground up and takes inspiration from the 1954 Chevrolet Corvair Concept. That concept car debuted just a year after Corvette went on sale, and it added a fastback roofline to the topless ‘Vette.

It’s hard to know where to start with the TwelveAir as it’s just so incredibly detailed. Let’s start with the engine, shall we? Kindig-It could have easily used an off-the-shelf LS V8, but instead, it rocks a bespoke aluminum 9.2-liter V12 from Race Cast Engineering. This engine, which makes the 8.4-liter V10 of a Dodge Viper seem small, is good for 650 horsepower and works alongside a seven-speed transmission. On top of packing a serious punch, the engine looks like a work of art.

Kindig-It crafted the TwelveAir’s custom bodywork from aluminum. Compared to the Corvette-based Corvair that inspired it, the car sits much lower and is wider, making it feel that much more special. The paint is called Modern Classikk Infrared, and there are plenty of chrome touches, including the custom wheels, bumpers, and front grille.

Then we get to the cabin, which is just as dramatic. The TwelveAir rocks a custom squircle steering wheel with classic gauges and a huge transmission tunnel dividing the cockpit in half. High-end tan leather adorns the seats, dashboard, door panels, and headliner, and there’s even exposed suspension hardware in the rear, much like a Ford Mustang GTD.

Richmond Auctions is handling the sale, with the auction running through October 17.
