Jap-fest followers have decided to name the Skyline as the ‘Most Iconic Japanese Car Ever’ over the Toyota Supra and the Subaru Impreza WRX.

The people surveyed were all participants at the Silverstone event, and most of them went with a car that became famous in the UK thanks to the 1997 Gran Turismo console game.

Just like with the game, the Skyline was developed through multiple generations, with each one being faster and more advanced than the other. Since then, the ‘Skyline’ name has become synonymous with Japanese tuning in the UK and beyond.

“The Nissan Skyline is one of the cars that really kicked off the Japanese tuning craze in the UK, so it’s no surprise to see that it’s been named as the most iconic Japanese performance car of all time,” said event manager Katherine Chappell. “Japfest is a real celebration of the culture that it, in part, created, and we look forward to celebrating its success this year among the event’s festival atmosphere.”

Apart from popular gaming franchises such as Gran Turismo or Need for Speed, the Nissan Skyline has also enjoyed plenty of exposure on the big screen – as the first and second installments of the Fast & Furious franchise come to mind.

Do you think the Skyline deserves this recognition or should they have chosen another nameplate?
