The closest we’ve come to seeing a small crossover/SUV from VW was the Polo-based T-Cross Breeze concept that showed up in Geneva this year.

It’s the next generation VW Polo’s MQB platform that should eventually spawn a more conventional version of the T-Cross concept, a car that would use gasoline, diesel but also plug-in hybrid drivetrains in order to turn either two or all four wheels.

If a final product would end up looking somewhat like this render here, then we could probably give props to Volkswagen for coming up with such a small yet sporty, almost coupe-like off-roader.

The sub-compact crossover segment is expanding pretty fast, with models such as the Nissan Juke, Mazda CX-3, Fiat 500X, Opel Mokka, Renault Captur (among others) currently enjoying increased popularity.

Still, the one thing that T-Cross Breeze concept had going for it (apart from the fact it was a convertible) was the modern front which could still make its way to future VW products – perhaps even a new sub-compact crossover such as this one.
