Skoda Details Superb’s Practical Light Features

Since winter can be a rather dark time for most, if not all drivers, Skoda is looking to lend a “lighting hand” in, around, and outside your vehicle.

What’s sure to come as a relief to tech-savvy customers, the new Superb is now available with an Adaptive Frontlight System (AFS) and bi-xenon headlights which include the LED Daytime Running lights. AFS is capable of illuminating the road and surrounding area factoring in the driving and weather conditions.

The system operates in three different modes: city, country road and motorway – where ‘countr-road’ mode is activated between 0 and 15 km/h and between 50 and 90 km/h.

In ‘city’ mode, the headlight beam is wider and shorter, since it needs to illuminate tighter spots like certain sections of pavement and crossings. This mode is active when driving between 15 and 50 km/h. As for the ‘motorway’ mode, the left headlight module swivels upwards and to the left from its initial position, while the right module is raised.

The AFS also features cornering light (active from 0 to 40 km/h), with fog lights integrated in this particular function.

Also while driving at night, Superb owners are able to enjoy the Smart Light Assist, which consists of a continuous main beam of light, detecting oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead with the help of the multifunction camera.

Inside, the Superb features LED ambient lighting, which can be altered depending on the status of the vehicle. When opening the car, the system will activate ‘welcome mode’ where peripheral light elements in the cockpit and door panels create an interesting lighting effect as you’re about to get in. As soon as you start the engine, the light intensity is switched automatically to ‘driving mode’, offering you a more subtle ambiance.

Of course, the color and intensity can be always adjusted through the infotainment system, where you’ll also find a selection of three colors.

Another practical light feature is waiting in the Superb’s boot. We’re talking about a built-in LED torch that can be taken out and used outside the car.
