It’s a fact of life: us humans -or at least a certain percentage- have a love for speed, be that on the ground, in the air or on water. Ideally, this passion should be channeled in safe manner by either choosing it as a profession or enjoying it at a controlled environment – i.e. a racetrack or a drag strip when it comes to cars.

But in real life, some speed lovers prefer an another alternative, one that is not only unsafe for themselves, but for other road users as well, and it’s called illegal street racing.

In the video you’re about to watch, the crew over at Sportbilen tells us how illegal street races happen in their home country of Sweden. This particular gathering took place in Stockholm this past weekend, and according to the report, 32 cars, some with slick tires and more than 1,000-ponies under the hood, came to race against each other.

“Thousands of spectators are scattered around the town on about 15 locations to trick the police,” says Sportbilen adding that in some cases, drivers come as far away as Norway, Finland and Poland to participate.
