There’s no doubt that this year’s Super Bowl XLV played host to some original commercials but the one ad that stood out more than the rest was “The Force” from Volkswagen, the official YouTube version of which has garnered over 45 million views since it aired on February 2.

Volkswagen actually aired one more commercial during the game, the “Black Beetle”, which has been seen by more than 5 million viewers on the German firm’s channel.

Today, VW announced that it plans to return to the Super Bowl next year with a single 60-second spot on the 2012 Beetle that will air at the beginning of the third quarter.

“Volkswagen is excited to showcase the all-new 2012 Beetle on football’s biggest stage. The Super Bowl is the perfect platform to feature the bold, dynamic, and sportiest Beetle ever made,” said Tim Mahoney, Chief Product and Marketing Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc.

For now, VW isn’t revealing any other information on the spot, but we expect to see a teaser of the ad sometime in January.
