We’ve already caught Mini trying out a prototype of the range-topping John Cooper Works GP hot hatch near the Nürburgring, but today, the company made it official.

Prior to the New York International Auto Show, Kay Segler, senior vice president of the Mini brand, said that the John Cooper Works GP will be revealed at the MINI United Festival that takes place in Le Castellet, France, this May.

Mini said that the limited-edition motorsport model will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor featuring a “particularly high-performance turbo engine, racing-oriented suspension technology and exclusive, aerodynamically optimized body components”.

We still don’t know exactly how much power Mini can squeeze from the JCW’s 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbo engine, but it is believed that it could produce up to 230 ponies in the limited edition, two-seater model.
