A student from the University of Texas was hit by a bus last Friday while playing a game with foam swords with another group of students. The peppy young man, who we only get to know by his first name of Nick, stepped on the road without looking out for oncoming vehicles.

Unfortunately for Nick, a Capital Metro bus was approaching at the time and smacked him down. On the bright side, the student only suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. David’s Medical Center for precautionary reasons.

According to Vanessa Aguinaga, a spokeswoman for the Austin Police Department, the bus driver, who was not named, passed through a red light before he hit the student. However, Aguinaga told Austin’s Statesman that the student stepped into a part of the street that “was not a crosswalk”.

One of Nick’s fellow students who was present at the scene had this to say on Youtube:

“The student, Nick, is fine and was released from the hospital around 3:45PM the same day, May 4th, 2012. I also feel the need to clarify the situation to those unfamiliar with the roads around UT campus. This sword fight took place on Guadalupe St just in front of the Co-op. The “crosswalk”, is understood to be the entire section in between the two striped areas. Nick was wearing an Obama mask.”
