The CAMI (Cool Amphibious Manufacturers International) Amphibious Responder is not hard to peg down for what it is: a vehicle designed to keep moving forward no matter what terrain it has to cross, be it water, solid ground or variations of both.

Its approach is a familiar one, crafting a body that’s also part hull and completely watertight but with normal wheels protruding through – it’s not the simplest way to get around the amphibious challenge, but it does hold the benefit of good maneuverability while floating, due to its hydrodynamic(ish) shape; other approaches often leave the vehicle cumbersome on water.

Power comes from a pair of 6.7-liter diesel engines, each putting out 300 hp. The power is rooted to both an all-wheel drive system and the marine drive too, but only one at a time.

However, if you order one, the  manufacturer says it can pretty much put in any engine you can think of, as long as it’s available, thanks to modular, customizable construction.

Its makers insist that it is the perfect vehicle for rapid response and rescue missions in disaster-stricken areas. What I found interesting is their claim that it is unsinkable due a special foam that’s used in the construction of its hull-body.
