Chevrolet has chosen the Chicago motor show to detail its new City Express commercial vehicle. Essentially a rebadged Nissan NV200, the new Chevy van “offers a smaller, more efficient choice for businesses that don’t need the cargo volume or other capabilities of a full-size van,” according to Ed Peper, US vice president of GM Fleet and Commercial.
It gets its power from a 2.0-liter petrol engine that puts out 131 hp and 188 Nm or 139 lb-ft; a CVT drives the front wheels.
Available body styles are full-size cargo in half-ton, three-quarter-ton and one-ton classes, in regular or stretched forms and Chevrolet says it will also come with CNG and diesel powerplants.
Practicality features include a fold-down passenger’s seat, storage-cubby-oriented center console, 40/60 rear cargo doors, side sliding doors, twenty integrated cargo-mounting points, six floor-mounted D-rings, washable vinyl floor and a 12V power outlet.
“It is an easy-to-maneuver van that makes the most of its compact dimensions with clever features, allowing business owners to maximize its space – and their resources – with a vehicle sized for their needs,” says Peper.
The model is expected to go on sale this fall.
