Like every year, the main attractions at the Wörthersee Treffen in Austria (May 28-31) will be VW’s GTI concepts, and for 2014, the German carmaker appears to have prepared something special. A dozen apprentices have developed and handcrafted a unique Golf GTI in nine months.

The project is based on a standard Golf GTI Performance, with the apprentices planning, testing and implementing everything themselves from conception and design through to painting, interior equipment and the powertrain.

The aim was to interpret a Golf GTI Performance “in accordance with their own ideas and to present it as a crowd-puller at the Wörthersee festival,” according to Volkswagen.

No other information was provided, so we’ll have to wait until VW reveals the car at the GTI event next week – unless it decides to “leak” a few photos earlier.
