Charging your phone with fiddly plugs, cords and bulky chargers will be a thing of the past, says Cadillac.

The now wreathless brand is on the verge of launching a new way to wirelessly infuse your device’s battery with juice. Called the “Powermat,” it’s an idea that’s been in development for a few years now and is finally ready to make its public debut.

The tech is set to debut with the revised ATS, refreshed for 2015. What Cadillac has done is allocated a certain (rubberized) area of the center stack for this charging purpose, and you can simply place your (supported, compatible) phone on it and, like they want to do with cars, power is replenished. It’s located behind a storage bin located behind “the fully motorized center instrument panel faceplate.”

One of the reasons the company decided to go ahead and include it in the ATS package was because, according to Ryan Sanderson, associate director, Power Supply & Storage Components at IHS Technology, “a recent survey from IHS revealed that 70 percent of consumers charge their mobile phone at least once per day, with 30 percent charging more than once.”
