The most interesting comparison test of the year to watch, hybrid hypercars aside, is the one where the hardcore versions of Ferrari’s 458 and Porsche’s 911 go head-to-head. Strangely, though, Chris Harris had missed out on that – until now, that is.

You probably know the facts already but let’s recap. Both the 458 Speciale and the 911 GT3 are the stripped out, track focused iterations of their lessen brethren. They’re also available solely with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that drives the rear wheels and a plethora of electronics, which supposedly enhance the driving experience.

That’s where the similarities end. The GT3 is 90HP down on power and stands no chance in a straight line. On the other hand, it has price tag half that of the Speciale. This test though is all about things like driving dynamics, so the price difference is irrelevant.

Moreover, with the surface of the Anglesey track being damp, the power deficit of the Porsche is less of an issue than in the dry. Does the 911 GT3 stand a chance against the mighty 458 Speciale? Watch Harris being, well, Harris, i.e. hooning the pair for most of the video, then posting lap times and reaching a conclusion, right after the virtual jump.
