If you’re out looking for a sports car right now, one that will punch well above its (price) weight, the new Corvette Z06 should be on your radar.

With a starting MSRP of $78,000, 650 hp and the availability of an eight-speed autobox, it’s hard to overlook when you’re in the market.

Jay Leno had one brought to his garage for his first video of 2015. It’s a convertible example fitted with the automatic gearbox. However, the GM representative present to explain what the car was about was keen to point out neither of those factors (not having a roof and having an autobox) affect the performance or capability.

In fact, they expect to sell around 60 percent automatic models and 40 percent manuals. That’s still a pretty good ratio, even if the Z06 is a car you can take to the track and not feel shortchanged. On the road, though, it does seem to attract cops’ attention, as you’ll see at the end of Leno’s video posted below.
