Are future Porsches sans disguise becoming like buses?

I mean, you wait ages for one and then, boom! two show up in just a few hours. First, it was the Cayman GT4, a mini-911-GT3 of shorts if we are to believe all the hype building around it.

Now it’s the GT3’s bigger, and much wilder, brethren: the 2016MY GT3 RS. Thanks to Stuttgart resident Johan9ff Instagram account (via Jalopnik), who came across the purest of Porsche’s breed totally undisguised, we now know how the new RS will look like – at least outwardly, ‘cause there aren’t any images of the cabin.

To be honest, it doesn’t spring that many surprises, given that we’ve seen this Neun-Elfer drive around in camouflage for quite some time, both at the Nordschleife and outside.

As you can see, it looks exactly like a meaner GT3, with a deeper front spoiler and a redesigned front bumper with bigger air intakes. Then there are the air outlets on top of the front wings, no doubt catering for the brakes increased cooling needs, and the bigger (compared to the GT3) fixed rear wing for that added measure of downforce essential at high speeds.

There’s no doubt that output will comfortably 500hp. The question still remains, though: what engine will the 991-based GT3 RS be powered by? So far, all its predecessors used naturally aspirated units but, as Porsche has shown with the new GT3 and its PDK-only transmission, it’s not afraid to break with tradition. The issue is raised by the rear air intakes, which in the Turbo fees air to the intercoolers.

If that’s the case, then we’re looking at the first-ever turbocharged GT3 RS – and that, in turn, has everyone wondering if there will ever be a GT2 RS. Well, the gearbox has been much talked about, too, but since this taboo has been broken with the GT3, we’d put our money on a dual-clutch transmission only.
