Purists around the world like fast Fords. Even the ones who don’t get crazy just by hearing an old Escort mentioned in a discussion, nod silently in approval over the various compliments thrown in the air.

The new Ford Focus RS is the 30th model that joins this long line of motorsport-bred models that helped Ford build its reputation among the petrolheads. That is perhaps why Ford promises to launch more than 12 performance models globally by the year 2020, setting the tone for the years to come.

Whether you are fan of the classic Escort or a groupie of the Sierra RS Cosworth, Ford was always finding ways to capture our imagination in a slightly different way than most companies.

From rally stages to touring car races, Ford had found the way to transfer some of the brilliantness to its performance road cars and that’s perhaps why there is such a loyal, cult following of the RS badge.

Will the new Focus RS keep the flag flying?
