Nissan has finalized an €80 million ($91 million) investment at its plant in Barcelona to retool the assembly line for the production of the all-new Navara.

The new pickup truck has been fine-tuned for European customers at Nissan’s Technical Centre (NTCE) in Barcelona, where the team developed the new 2.3-liter dCi engine and adapted noise and vibration, steering, suspension and brakes for European customers.

The contribution of Nissan’s Spanish team to the new pickup also includes the manufacture of parts including steering knuckles, brake discs and drums at the company’s Cantabria plant. Nissan trusts the quality of the new NP300 Navara so much that it decided to make it its first light commercial vehicle to come with a new 5-year warranty.

“With the expertise of our team in Spain, a totally renewed production line in Barcelona, and our new five-year Nissan Light Commercial Vehicle warranty, Navara is further evidence that Nissan quality has never been better,” said Nissan Europe Chairman Paul Willcox on a visit to the plant.

Production of the new Nissan NP300 Navara in Barcelona will be followed by new one-tonne pickup trucks for both Renault and Mercedes-Benz, with all three models to share some common architecture.

The Barcelona plant has capacity to build about 120,000 vehicles annually for the three brands. When maximum capacity will be reached, Nissan estimates some 1,000 new jobs will be created at the facility.
