Even though the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro doesn’t look a lot different compared to the 2015 model, underneath all that metal, things couldn’t be any more different.

The 2016 Camaro utilizes a brand new platform, weighs a lot less and is shorter, lower and narrower than the out-going car, which is something performance-oriented fans will certainly appreciate. Those who look close enough will certainly notice all the visual differences – we are looking at a sportier product, inside and out.

Of course, what’s sportier than taking an already aggressive-looking car and fitting it with a body kit? Not a whole lot. We’re talking front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and exhaust cutouts – subtle yet significant changes.

In terms of performance, we’re looking at the SS version, which means that power is coming from a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine, good for 455 HP. This means you can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4 seconds flat and cover a 1/4 mile in 12.3 seconds if the car is equipped with the new 8-speed automatic transmission.

The 2016 Camaro SS is priced from $37,295 in the US, which makes it a direct rival for the Ford Mustang GT Fastback (5.0-liter V8, 435 HP, $32,395) and the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack (6.4-liter V8, 485 HP, $39,990).

While the Challenger should probably be removed from the equation if the customer wants his car to feel even the least bit agile, the Mustang GT might just have the upper hand here, with almost as much power and a significantly lower price compared to the Camaro SS. The downside is, it’s not as quick in a straight line.
