Koenigsegg Regera Debuts In Geneva In Production Spec

After its successful introduction as a concept last year, the Regera “megacar” is finally ready to be delivered to its first customers.

According to the Swedish manufacturer, no fewer than 3,000 changes were made in order to get it ready for production, as the car now weighs just 1,590 kg (3,505 lbs) complete with water, oils and fuel. Its dry weight is 1,470 kg (3,240 lbs).

During the development process, Koenigsegg’s patent-pending Direct Drive system was their biggest challenge. Yet it has yielded the biggest rewards, making the Regera even more revolutionary than it was first envisioned to be.

It’s comprised of a clutch-slip mechanism that uses hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration, giving off a sensation of traditional downshifting even without the traditional gearbox.

The car still uses shift paddles on either side of the steering wheel, however the left paddle is used to enhance the regenerative braking effect in recharging the battery pack, whereas the right paddle is for activating the hydraulic coupling’s “downshift” operation. Another world first is the adoption of a 800V back, with the 4.5 kWh unit weighing just 90 kg (198 lbs).

With a 0 to 300 km/h (0-186 mph) acceleration time of just 10.9 seconds, it actually beats the new Chiron’s “less than 13.6 seconds” announced by Bugatti. The reason for that is of course the Regera’s massive 1,500+ HP output with over 2,000 Nm (1,475 lb-ft) of torque. With those kinds of numbers, it will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds and 200 km/h (124 mph) in 6.6 seconds. That’s slightly slower than the Chiron, but it seems that the magic happens somewhere between 200 and 300 km/h as far as the Regera is concerned.

Koenigsegg has also estimated a 0-400 km/h (248 mph) time of 20 seconds flat and a 150 to 250 km/h (155 mph) sprint time of just 3.9 seconds.

Despite the outrageous performance, Regera owners can expect a very refined driving experience due to the sense of isolation and peace within the cabin at low speeds – which is why Koenigsegg say this car has a true Jekyll and Hyde personality.

Inside the you’ll find goodies such as rear & forward facing cameras, Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi, heated and electrically adjustable seats with memory function, among other features.
