It seemed like a peculiar choice, introducing that 2015 MY GTS less than a year before the new, turbocharged 911s hit the market.

Not that it mattered, as the 430 PS Neun-Elfer was a more than welcome addition to the range, slotting in nicely between the Carrera S and the GT3.

As a filing with the California Air Resources Board (via Rennlist) reveals, its production run was meant to be a short one as it will soon be replaced with a 991.2-based variant sometime this year for the 2017 MY.

Like the rest of the family, bar the GT3 and the R, the revamped GTS will adopt forced induction, as Porsche will ditch the naturally aspirated 3.8 in favor of a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat six.

The 991.2 GTS will once again come in two- and four-wheel drive, Coupe, Cabriolet and Targa variants and with both manual and PDK dual-clutch variants. There are no numbers yet, but it will more likely get a small power bump and once again come with the Carrera 4 wide body and feature the Sport Chrono package, PASM active suspension and some styling tweaks that will differentiate it from lesser versions.

Hat tip to GT!
