Opel’s range of emergency vehicles has welcomed a new member, the Astra Sports Tourer, which will debut on May 11 at the 2016 RETTmobil, in Fulda, Germany.

The compact estate wears bright red decals and is factory-equipped with roof antennas, an engine relay system, a signal system, front flashing blue lights and blue warning lights at the other end, with LED technology, joined by the BT 220 controls, which sit in the center console, and a microphone, for making public announcements.

Prior to being converted into an emergency vehicle, the Opel Astra Sports Tourer already benefited from communications and safety technology such as OnStar with Wi-Fi hotspot, Navi 900 IntelliLink and IntelliLux LED matrix headlights.

Joining it on the showroom floor is a Hansel Fahrzeugbau-converted Movano Trabus, which is aimed at fire brigades, providing rapid transport from accident-scene to hospital. Following its RETTmobil debut, the multi-purpose vehicle will head over to Russelsheim, where it will serve with the plant fire brigade.

Opel also has a Mokka subcompact SUV present at the event in Fulda, dressed in the same livery as the Astra Sports Tourer emergency vehicle and equipped with similar tech.
