Hyundai’s facelifted SUV has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick Plus award when equipped with the (optional) front crash prevention.

The compact SUV scored good ratings in the moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints and its Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), with Pedestrian Detection, was awarded with a superior rating.

The Santa Fe Sport’s optional front crash prevention system earns a superior rating. The Santa Fe Sport avoided collisions in IIHS track tests at 12 mph (km/h) and 25 mph (km/h). The system also has a forward collision warning component that meets the NHTSA criteria“, said IIHS’s Chief Research Officer, David Zuby.

Some of the standard equipment featured on the 2017 MY includes ESC, Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill-start Assist Control with Downhill Brake Control, seven airbags and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Both the Santa Fe Sport and the larger Santa Fe have received a mid-cycle facelift earlier this year, with a subtle redesign and more tech into the package. Prices for the updated Santa Fe Sport start from $25,350 in the entry-level guise with FWD and they can reach $38,250 in the 2.0T Ultimate AWD trim.
